Having worked with marketing and digital businesses that have gone through the 2Y3X programme, I know that Felix’s approach works, and I was keen to see how it was done. This book generously shares his practical step-by-step blueprint for scaling service businesses. You might have to ask tough questions and do things differently, but the payoff will be worth it.
The book discusses a unique process that offers a straightforward and strategic approach to achieving significant business growth. This book is written in a format that will be effective for startups with six employees as well as for larger firms. The author has presented a concept of a ‘growth lab team’ drawn from the company’s top performers. The 2Y3X Roadmap plan is based on the idea of establishing three targets: financial, quality, and culture. This book is recommended to all readers who are interested in expert techniques and advice for the growth of their business.
I love this book. If you’re a business owner or team leader, I really recommend it. It breaks down step-by-step how to create a 3-year plan that you and the team are excited by. It’s a really interesting way to make sure the business goals are owned by everyone, and not just the one or two people at the top. This is a great book to read if you’re stuck on how to set business-wide goals, or if you find you’re setting goals without a clear action plan to achieving them.
This book is concise, useful, clear and comprehensive. I tend to approach growth formula or scaling business books with skepticism, because I’ve read too many bad ones. This won me over because what it said that I already knew was spot on, what I’d forgotten was what I needed to remember and the new things to me rang true.
This book is so epic, every business owner should read it. It’s particularly perfect if you’re a small business owner who has gained some traction already, built up a small staff, sales are going strong, and you’re starting to think about an exit. This book gives the sometimes hard advice that in order to scale big and sell for a big multiplier all the ducks you need to have in a row. I wish I had understood this stuff the day I started my business — I recommend this book highly to any business owner, manager, or even business school student.
I raced through this book in hours as I was fascinated at how a relatively simple format could provide a clear route to scaling. What Felix Velarde has created here is a super accessible model to implement in your business — bringing your top talent on the journey and creating and breaking down a 3 year strategy into a series of short term outcomes that will build your company through sustained focus. It’s well structured, logical, and delivered with brains and heart.
I have read many books on business domain. They enlist good techniques but seem to lack some key step(s) in how to actually perform the ‘doing’. This is a dream book for a business architect. Contains the entire technical strategical plan encapsulating key pillars that run through as a golden thread through the fabric of the pillars that hold internal and external growth to be sustainable. Its a must have for any business visionary or leader.
I have run my agency for about 15 years and it’s fair to say it’s not where I would like it to be. This book feels like it could unlock the latent potential that lies hidden. It’s an enormously exciting read because it starts to make the transformational journey seem possible. Its full of practical advice that demands organisation and commitment. But at the end of the book I had a clear idea of what the road ahead looks like and a taste of what it would feel like running a business and a team that is optimised for growth.
If you’re highly experienced then this book offers the most succinct way of rounding up all the important business lessons you’ve learned but mislaid over time and enables you to reach for them easily and transfer them into fresh results. If you’re not experienced then this advice is like discovering buried treasure. Read it, use it and if you’re smart get 2Y3Xer on board!
I enjoyed this read. It was very informative and explained a lot of things well. It was a little hard to get into at first, and was a little confusing, but as you read further, and everything is explained in more detail, everything makes a lot more sense. I really liked the key takeaway sections at the end of every chapter. They provided a really nice summary of what was in the chapter. I felt like it was a good length — at 60,000 words it explains a lot, but I could still read it in a day if I wanted to.
Scale at Speed is a must-read for leaders and business owners seeking growth, innovation, and financial success. The (GLT) Growth Lab Team leadership model and 2Y3X Strategy Map provide a practical framework to triple revenue in three years through a five-member high-performing team, each driving measurable outcomes. The book offers actionable insights for building leadership pipelines, empowering teams, and fostering a culture of accountability and innovation. I found the tools, KPIs, and succession planning strategies invaluable and highly adaptable across industries.
Scale at Speed by Felix Velarde is one of those informative and extremely helpful books that every business owner, entrepreneur or anyone planning to start a small business should have on their bookshelf. The author carefully and craftily lays out strategies and practical steps that the reader can easily understand and employ in order to successfully take their business to the next level. I highly recommend this book, rating it 5 out of 5 stars.
I found two aspects of this book particularly appealing. Firstly, the author effectively conveyed the book’s message by drawing on his own experiences. His candid and sincere approach was evident throughout, as he openly acknowledged his shortcomings and mistakes. His words were truly motivational, urging readers to take action to advance their businesses. Secondly, I was impressed by the author’s use of credible research to support his experiences, adding credibility and encouraging readers to verify the information through other sources.
If you have reached that point in your company where everything is going along fine — just not getting any further — this book explains how to do what we used to call ‘business process reengineering’. But instead of efficiency experts with stopwatches and a strict how-to guide, this book maps out a method for you to create your own strategy, your own plan, and get your team to step up to take responsibility.
I like how the author weaves in a story about a trek around the Himalayan trails of Nepal — his guide’s job was to get him to a specific destination, but it was the numerous stops along the way that made the hiking easier and also enjoyable. That story encapsulates the 2Y3X process for stable businesses that want to scale fast. Felix Velarde states he’s not created a new system and gives praise to Verne Harnish, Jim Collins, Geoff Smart, and others. However, Scale at Speed is unique with its own footprint in achieving transformational growth. If you have found the one-page plans in Mastering the Rockefeller Habits or Scaling Up a bit too complex, the planning canvases in this book are accessible for any small to mid-sized business. Scale At Speed reads fast, so don’t be surprised if you find yourself going through it again after you finish it.
The method, in their own words.
Scale at Speed is the book. 2Y3X is where it is put to work. These founders have lived the method.
Working with Felix has been one of the most transformative experiences for Veza Digital. As an advisor and mentor, he has fundamentally changed the way we think about growth, leadership, and scale. Felix has an exceptional ability to cut through complexity and bring clarity to both strategic and operational challenges. His methods are not theoretical, they are structured, practical, and deeply effective. Under his guidance, we’ve built stronger systems, clearer accountability, and a roadmap that’s already showing measurable results.
I worked with Felix for just over a year and it changed my career and business forever. If I had to point to one thing, it would be, I believe that Felix taught me how to think and how to design strategy. We were a successful company before and we are so afterwards but now we are organised, strategic, purposeful and ultimately ready to continue scaling in an organised and efficient manner.
Felix’s no-nonsense approach breaks down complexity and keeps you focused on the things that really matter… turns theory into reality and puts strategy into practice. The results speak for themselves.
Felix is a rare breed. He understands deeply what makes businesses tick, is well connected, ambitious and very commercially savvy. He has a great understanding of the market and is well positioned to support a board from a positioning, strategy and M&A perspective. Last but absolutely not least — a genuinely decent human being who is diligent about doing the right thing.
I’d totally lost interest and was about to catapult the towel into a bonfire; but with the new proposition, engaged team and acquirers seeing us as an asset, it completely turned around.
After operating for a decade, Felix and his team lit a new path for us. Everything from titles, to operational changes, mission, finances, marketing, personnel — every box was checked, and what felt insurmountable became reality with our trusted navigators. Felix and his team have eyes in the back of their heads, and while at times it was unclear why a certain exercise is important, if you trust the system and give yourself over to their wisdom, you will be successful scaling and selling your company.
I’ve been working with Felix for around 18 months. As a result, we’ve tripled our headcount, the turnover’s tripled and profit percentage doubled. I cannot recommend him enough if you’re looking to grow a solid agency fast.
This is the orchestration Felix provides: he takes you deeper into the values of the organisation and into what drives people to find a proposition with purpose that also rightly identifies you in the market.
I’m grateful to Felix for showing me how to empower my team and make them feel part of what we’re building. I’ve watched them all grow as individuals and I know that the future of my business is in great hands.
I can honestly say working with Felix is the most enjoyable thing I’ve done, work-wise. Enjoyable and challenging and rewarding as an owner as well to see the impact on your business.
Felix has an exceptional ability to bring clarity to complexity. He consistently takes high-stakes challenges and makes them feel focused and achievable, guiding you back to the why behind your goals. He helps you prioritize what truly matters and avoid reactive decision making that can easily cloud your judgment and momentum. Working with Felix has been a highlight of my career and has fundamentally shaped how I think, lead, and empower my team.
This isn’t about someone coming in and telling you what to do—it’s about empowering your team and making growth a shared responsibility.
